Gino’s East | Chicago, IL

Gino’s East is one of Chicago’s best known pizzerias, and I believe their reputation is well-deserved. I enjoyed their cheesy pizza bread appetizer, and I especially enjoyed their sausage deep dish pizza. But this wasn’t just any sausage pizza, Gino’s East offers the option of traditional sausage chunks or a sausage patty that covers the entire pizza…thats right, the entire pizza! I obviously chose the sausage patty, and it was one of the best pizza toppings I have ever had. I definitely feel comfortable recommending Gino’s East to sausage pizza lovers. That is, unless they happen to be trying to count calories as this pizza may challenge your math skills in that department, but I don’t think you should worry about that when having deep dish pizza in the first place.  I can note that they also offer salads, pasta, stromboli, sandwiches, and thin crust pizza in case you want something a little lighter than their famous Chicago-style pizza.  That being said, there is really no reason to not visit Gino’s East if you are in the area.

7/31/14 Update – I tried a thin crust pizza from Gino’s East because we were hungry and didn’t want to wait.  However, in hindsight, I would definitely recommend waiting for their deep dish in the future because I was very disappointed in their thin crust pizza.  The toppings were still good, but its crust almost tasted like a stale cracker.  Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but I would stick with the deep dish pizza from Gino’s East or go to Pizano’s Pizza & Pasta if you want thin crust.
