Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza is known as one of the better pizza parlors in central Indiana, and I believe my trip to the eastside to give it a try was well worth it (they also have a location Greenwood). I started with some breadsticks (pictured below) which were okay but nothing too special, although I did enjoy their creamy parmesean dipping sauce. For the main course, I chose the Slaughterhouse-Five named after one of Indianapolis’ own Kurt Vonnegut’s works, and this pizza inlcuded pepperoni, ham, sausage, bacon, and Italian beef. They have a great selection of specialty pizzas, so the choice was not an easy one, but I definitely didn’t regret it after biting into the pizza. The toppings were outstanding, and the crust was crisp and airy while not being too thick or thin. I have heard that Jockamo Pizza was started by someone who used to be affiliated with Bazbeaux Pizza, and I could certainly see some similarities. They both have very fresh-tasting toppings and a good crust that doesn’t overpower the other flavors, however, by a very narrow margin, I think I would prefer Bazbeaux Pizza over Jockamo Pizza. Beyond pizza, Jockamo’s also offers salads, sandwiches, and desserts. One neat thing about Jockamo Pizza is that they offer a lot of local flavor from their beer selection to toppings on certain pizzas coming from other local restaurants and markets, so, if you are in the Indianapolis area, you can certainly get a good taste of it from this pizza place.
