If the old school atmosphere of Luigi’s Restaurant in Akron, Ohio doesn’t win you over, then their pizza definitely will. I watched the “Chicago Band Box” perform over their entrance like it has for the past fifty years while I started my meal with their garlic bread with mozzarella. This appetizer was good, but the best part of the meal wouldn’t be on its way until a dancing character over the kitchen window signaled our waitress that the pizza was ready. I had traveled to this establishment that has been operating since 1949 with a University of Akron alum and trusted him to order our pizza with pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, and extra sauce. The sweet-tasting sauce and great toppings stretched nearly to the edge of our pizza’s pan crust. The crust was of perfect thickness, and everything about the pizza was delicious. The pizza is so good that it can be enjoyable at almost any hour, so it is nice that they stay open very late. I strongly recommend trying Luigi’s Restaurant when in Akron, and I am not the only one as it has survived and thrived even after the city isolated them by rerouting traffic around their site.
