Mash Tun Above the Pub

The Pike Brewing Company is located in the famous Pike Place Market – yes, the same place where they throw fish – of downtown Seattle.  Both their pub and brewery are in the same location, and the brewery is actually mostly below the pub.  Parts of the brew kettle and mash tun are exposed in a neat way that makes them viewable to patrons, and brewery tours that include everything below the pub can also be scheduled.  Not surprisingly, The Pike Brewing Company boasts an excellent selection of their own beer in addition to a variety of food offered on the pub menu.

The pub part of the Pike Brewing Company has a really cool atmosphere with some of the visible brewing equipment combined with all sorts of eclectic beer paraphernalia.  Honestly, that is what initially drew me to them, and I was just incredibly happy that they happened to serve pizza as well.  They have a few specialty pizzas and also allow you to create your own.  All of their pizzas come in a single size that is plenty for a single adult and could possibly be shared by two calorie-conscious adults.  I decided to try their Carnivore pizza which consists of organic marinara, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, and Canadian bacon.  My pizza had a crust that was just about right – not too think or too thin – and had a lot of fine cornmeal on the bottom.  The sauce was probably my favorite part, and it blended well with the cheese.  The meats all come from local places and were good, but I’ve certainly had more flavorful versions of them at other restaurants.

All in all, The Pike Brewing Company is definitely worth a visit, and their pizza was good, just not mind-blowingly good.  If I am able to return, I think I may try one of the other specialties on their menu, such as the Bison Bacon Burger, or a basic cheese pizza that would allow me to better savor their tasty marinara sauce.  The most important thing is that I would definitely dine there again if I have the opportunity, and I would recommend you do the same.  My rating for them purely relates to the pizza I ate like all of my reviews, and I would give my overall experience at their pub a higher score.
