Pizza 317 is a new addition to the northeast Carmel pizza scene. I imagine most of its business is delivery or carryout, but it does have some limited seating as well.
Most of the items on the menu at Pizza 317 are named after something relating to central Indiana. I started with the Colts Cheese Bread, which were just breadsticks brushed with garlic butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. They were okay, but next time I might try the Pacers Mozzarella Bread, which is the same breadsticks topped with Mozzarella cheese. Or, better yet, maybe the Indians Mozzarella sticks.
For my pizza, I tried the Storm Pepperoni, which is believe is an ode to the Indiana Storm, a youth track club. The crust was thin and soft, with just a slight crispiness at the edges. The cheese was rich and stood out beyond anything else on the pizza. The pepperoni had some nice seasoning on it. There wasn’t anything special about the sauce in my opinion.
I also tried a plain cheese pizza, and, again, the rich cheese stood out. However, as much as I want to like a new local pizza place, I’d have to say their pizzas are just average overall. The pizzas reminded me of good food court or cafeteria pizza but not great restaurant pizza. Since they’re new, I’ll certainly give Pizza 317 another try down the road though, and their Fishers Deluxe (lots of meat) has me intrigued.
