Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza was recommended to me by those who call Wichita home (they also provided me with some trivia in that Pizza Hut was actually started in Wichita), and I believe their recommendation was a good one. I tried the Salsiccia pizza which was comprised of marinara sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, tomatoes, and fresh oregano. I particularly enjoyed the thin, yet soft crust, and there were certainly no negative aspects to the pizza. The toppings were very good, and there was a nice amount of cheese on it – not too much, and not too little as I see all to often at artisan pizza places such as this. The size of the pizza was filling for one but not enough for two, and it cost $7.75. Il Vicino also has a lunch special that includes a smaller pizza, salad, and a drink for only ten dollars. Additionally, they offer calzones, sandwiches, and pasta as well as wine and beer. Besides Kansas, there are locations in Colorado and New Mexico, and the one I ate at at Wichita is the original. If you find yourself in a city that has an Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza, I don’t think you could go wrong by eating there.
