The Flying Goat in Spokane, Washington is hard to categorize, but I believe they can be best described as a relaxed sports gastropub that takes pride in offering unique and quality options – this is evident from their beer and wine selection to their pizza toppings. All of the pizza creations at The Flying Goat are very creative, and I settled upon their “Gordon” pizza which consists of Zoe’s pepperoni, Italian sausage, kalamata olives, oven roasted mushrooms, house cheese blend and red sauce, only I got it without mushrooms. The toppings had a great flavor, and the meat had just the right amount of delicious greasiness to it. I also enjoyed the kalamata olives which are somewhat purple in color and lean more towards the taste of green olives than black ones. Additionally, I thought the crust, which starts from fresh dough every morning and is cooked at 600 degrees, was very well done. The Flying Goat states that the char to their crust is an essential part of cooking a correct Neopolitan-style pizza, and I believe they do a good job of accomplishing that without blackening it too much. It was almost the perfect blend between soft and crispy in my opinion. I would definitely recommend The Flying Goat as a great place to enjoy some beverages and pizza – whether it be on their patio, in their dining room, or at the bar – in the Inland Northwest.
