Black Thorn Pub & Pizza | St. Louis, MO

Black Thorn Pub & Pizza is somewhat of a hidden gem of pizzerias, and I only knew of it thanks to someone that lives in the area. It is tucked away in a neat older neighborhood in southern St. Louis, and is well known to the locals for its Chicago-style pizza. They also offer thin and pan crust, but I had to try their more famous Chicago-style offering. I really enjoyed two things about the pizza; it’s great amount of cheese and its sauce, which had a little more spunk or spice than most. There isn’t a huge amount of eat-in area at Black Thorn Pub & Pizza as it looks a little more like a dive bar inside, and I hear there is usually a big line of customers waiting to pick up their pizzas on Friday and Saturday nights. It is definitely a great local pizza place worth trying in St. Louis though, and they do have a shuffleboard table to keep you busy while you wait for your pizza (that is, if drinking isn’t enough on its own).

Thanks for the info! I’ve never tired Black Thorn before. My favorite place to grab a pizza in STL is Farotto’s in Rock Hill. Loooove the Black & Blue. Get it every time. Try them out! http://www.farottos.com

    Mark,
Why would you talk about another pizza joint in this review. Did your mom drop you on the head as a child?

Blackthorn could possibly be the best pizza I have had in st.louis or anywhere in the world. Well, besides Florence.. Go try it out.

LOVE Blackthorn pizza. We used to live a few blocks away back in the day. It’s great place to hang out and the pizza is great…especially because of the awesome sauce. Thanks for giving props to Blackthorn.
