Zio’s Pizzeria has a few restaurants in Omaha, and I dined at the one in the historic Old Market District. This is a neat area with cobblestone streets and plenty of dining options and other shops to check out. This Zio’s Pizzeria location fits its environment well with an exposed brick wall and open ceiling, giving it a warehouse feel.
Zio’s does offer some items besides pizza, such as calzones, hoagies, and pasta, but those obviously weren’t of interest to me. I tried a slice of one of their specialties, the Margherite, as well as a slice of good ol’ pepperoni. The crust of both slices was thicker and crunchier than I expected for a New York-style pizzeria. It wasn’t bad, but you should just be prepared that it isn’t the thin and foldable type of crust. I didn’t think this thicker type of crust worked too well with the Margherite pizza, but it certainly was appropriate for my friend’s loaded slice that even included mac n’ cheese. It also worked better with my pepperoni slice that was cheesy and greasy, just as I like it.
What I Ate: Pepperoni and Margherite
