Crust Pizzeria Napoletana | Carmel, IN

Crust Pizzeria Napoletana, or simply Crust, just opened this week in Carmel, Indiana at the south end of the Providence Shoppes on Old Meridian.  As the full name implies, Crust strives to serve authentic Neopolitan pizza.  The owner personally cooks most of these pizzas in Crust’s stone oven that is kept at 700 degrees.  Before delving too deep into their pizza, I should point out that Crust has a nice beer and wine list and many other Italian dishes as well.  I enjoyed their homemade mac & cheese appetizer and recommend it if you like a creamy, home-style mac & cheese.

The pizza I ordered at Crust is called the Soprano, and it consists of hot Italian sausage, pancetta, pepperoni.  If you are like me and are now going to Google “pancetta,” I can save you the time by telling you that it is Italian bacon.  This is different than American bacon in that it comes from the belly of the pig and is salt-cured and not smoked.  I don’t know that anyone quite does bacon like ‘Murica, but all of Crust’s toppings were extremely fresh and flavorful.  The other flavor of the pizza that really stood out to me was the sauce.  The manager informed me that this is most likely because they make their own sauce using Stanislaus plum tomatoes, which only have two hours in between picking and canning.  They also make the dough for their crust fresh every day.  I liked the crust, but it was not as exciting to me as the toppings and sauce (I get the irony in this given the restaurant’s name).  Overall, Crust Pizzeria Napoletana is a nice new option in north central Indiana for dine-in and carry-out pizza.

What I Ate: Soprano (Italian sausage, pancetta, and pepperoni)
Rating: 7.5/10

I was left disappointed when I gave Crust a chance. The poor, bland quality of their food was nowhere near worth the high prices. I will never come back here, and would never suggest this restaurant to anyone else. There are many, many other pizza places to eat at that are so better. Avoid going to Crust.

I’ve tried few pizza places in Indy and I would say crust so far is the best! All their ingredients are so fresh, their appetizers are great variety of things, great selection of wine and beer as well. The atmosphere is very warm and calming…and I would definitely go back! Crust is my new favorite place in town for pizza!
