Mother Bear’s Pizza | Bloomington, IN

Mother Bear’s Pizza has been serving delicious pizza in Bloomington, Indiana for nearly forty years.  Currently, they get my vote for not only the best pizza in Indiana, but for the best pizza I have ever tasted in this country.  Having gone to Indiana University, I will admit that I would struggle to say a single bad thing about any place in Bloomington.  However, I try to put my bias aside, and I still can’t think of any pizzas that I would rather have than Mother Bear’s (although it may be a tie with a delcious margherita pizza I had in Naples, Italy).  Don’t worry though, this is far from a closed book as I still have an incredible amount of pizza eating ahead of me.

I think the thing that really sets Mother Bear’s Pizza apart is their award-winning sauce.  It has just the right amount of spunk to it to stand out, but it doesn’t overpower their great cheese or toppings.  While I do like their cheese, I would not recommend ordering extra cheese on a pizza at Mother Bear’s as that can detract from the amazing sauce.  Being that I am a huge fan of cheese in general, me telling you this really says something about their sauce!  Additionally, Mother Bear’s has a tasty traditional pan crust that is the perfect thicknes…not too thick or too thin.  While I prefer the standard red sauce and tradional crust, they also offer Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, vodka sauce, parmesan garlic white sauce, olive tapenade, salsa del rafano, and homemade pesto, as well as deep-dish and toasted sesame thin crusts.  No matter what your preferences are, I think it would be very hard to find a pie at Mother Bear’s Pizza that you don’t enjoy.

We were looking forward to our team meeting for USA Track and Field. We called the day prior to make sure the restaurant could accommodate our group of 20 and let them know we would be there at 6:30 pm. We called the morning prior to verify that the restaurant knew we were coming and had a reservation for us. When we arrived at 6:30, we were told that they could not accommodate us and essentially did not need our business. If you don’t need our business, well great for you, but it is not fair to lead us to believe we will be served and then turn us away. Next time a group calls to make arrangements, let them know that there is no guarantee they will be served – so they can make arrangements at a different restaurant that keeps their promises.

First time at Mother Bears. Took my first year Grandson back to school. The three of us thought the pizza was awesome. Staff was very friendly, enjoyed reading all of the graffiti while waiting for our pizza. Plan to eat there again.
